SAT
College Board
AdmissionsEnglish
A US college admissions test from College Board, used by many US colleges and some universities elsewhere. It is fully digital.
Details
- Format
- Two sections, each split into two modules: Reading and Writing (54 questions, 64 minutes) and Math (44 questions, 70 minutes), with a 10-minute break in between. Total testing time is 2 hours 14 minutes. The test is adaptive: how you do on the first module of a section decides whether the second module is easier or harder.
- Scoring
- Total score 400–1600, made up of two section scores of 200–800 each. Policies vary: many US colleges are test-optional, while others require scores. Check each college's testing policy and the typical scores of students it admits.
- Results valid for
- No fixed expiry date. College Board can still send older (archived) scores, but it notes that scores 5 or more years old may be less reliable predictors, and each college decides what it accepts.
- How you take it
- Digital, using College Board's Bluebook app on an approved laptop or tablet (your own, or one borrowed through College Board's device-lending programme), at a test centre on SAT Weekend dates or at school on SAT School Day.
- Fee
- US$68. Outside the US there is an extra US$43 international fee. Other fees, such as late registration or changes, cost extra.
