How the NextUni app and website handle your information. Last updated 2 November 2026.

In short

  • You can use NextUni without an account. Your plan, saved universities and applications then stay on your phone or in your browser.
  • If you sign in, we keep a copy in your account so you can use it on another device, and so we can remind you about deadlines.
  • We don't show ads, sell your information or share it for marketing.
  • You can delete your account and its copy at any time, in the app or on this site.

On your device

The app keeps your study plan (name, home country, destinations, study level, field, start date, budget band, qualification, grades and test scores), saved universities, tracked applications with their deadlines and notes, document and checklist ticks, and display settings on your phone. The website keeps your theme and display choices, and a small hint that you are signed in, in your browser's storage. Nothing here leaves your device unless you sign in.

If you create an account

  • Sign-in: your email address and the sign-in method (email and password, Google or Apple), held by Firebase Authentication. We never see your Google or Apple password, and Sign in with Apple lets you hide your email.
  • Backup: the study plan, saved universities and tracked applications listed above, stored in your own record in Cloud Firestore so they appear on your other devices.
  • Reminders: if you turn on deadline reminders, an ID for your phone's notifications, so our server can send a reminder three days before an open application is due.

We use this information only to run these features. Only you can read or change your record; our rules block everyone else, and our own server code reads deadlines only to send your reminders.

Where it is stored

Accounts, backups and reminders run on Google Firebase (Firebase Authentication, Cloud Firestore, Cloud Functions and Cloud Messaging), which processes the information for us. Firestore stores it in Google Cloud's United States multi-region; the website is served from Singapore. Google keeps standard server logs, such as IP addresses, for security and reliability.

Other services you reach through NextUni

University photos load from Wikimedia Commons, so Wikimedia's servers see your IP address and browser type when an image loads. Links to universities, scholarships, governments, Wikipedia, maps (Google Maps) and web searches (DuckDuckGo) open those sites only when you tap them, and they have their own privacy policies.

Keeping and deleting your information

We keep your account and backup until you delete them. Deleting your account (Profile → Account → Delete account in the app, or the account page on this site) removes the account, the backup and the reminder registration straight away. What is on your phone stays until you reset it in Profile or uninstall the app.

How to delete your account

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your information, and to object to how it is used. You can see and change everything in the app, delete it yourself, or ask us to do it by writing to mail@nightowls.com.np or calling +977 976-4398836.

Children

NextUni is meant for students aged 13 and over. Where the law sets a higher age for consent, younger students should use it with a parent or guardian.

Changes

If we change how we handle your information, we will update this page and its date, and tell you in the app before a change that affects your account.
