Details

Format
Each level is a separate exam with four parts: listening, reading, writing and speaking. DELF B2: listening 30 minutes, reading 1 hour, writing 1 hour, speaking 20 minutes (plus 30 minutes to prepare). DALF C1: listening 40 minutes, reading 50 minutes, writing 2 hours 30 minutes (a summary and an essay), speaking 30 minutes (plus 1 hour to prepare).
Scoring
Each part is marked out of 25, for a total of 100. To pass you need at least 50/100 overall and at least 5/25 in every part. You choose the level to sit, and you either pass that diploma or not. For university entry, B2 is the usual reference level, and C1 is increasingly asked for.
