About

The Academy of Vocal Arts (AVA) is a private opera school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, United States. The AVA is a tuition-free institution of training and performance for opera. Located in a 19th-century townhouse at 1920 Spruce Street, it was founded in 1934 as the School for Vocal Scholarships and was re-named AVA in 1936. The AVA is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music as a non-degree granting institution. While it does not offer degrees, it awards graduate-level artist diplomas to students who have successfully completed a four-year program of study and are ready for a professional career in opera.
